Day 3 was another perfect 15 to 20 knots of SE for the Masters fleet of 39 boats from around the globe.
I was thrilled to have my father come out in his tender to watch the racing today. Before the race I introduced him to some of the local competitors who remember him. It was a proud moment for me to see how genuinely thrilled they were to meet him and I think quite humbling for the old boy also. Current Australian champion and current Worlds leader Greg Adams thanked me later saying, ‘what an honor it was to meet his ‘sailing hero’ from his youth!’ (The old man was a triple Olympian and 10 x Australian Champion in the Finn Class)
My start in the first race of the day was a shocker and my windward beats didn’t go to plan either. I crossed the line in 19th place which was dissapointing after my 7th the day before but probably more realistic given my lack of fitness and mistakes.
The second race wasn’t much better I’m afraid. Unfortunatly this time I was in a better position at the start, but with so many boats over the line before the gun, a general recall was signalled and a restart was required. My next start wasn’t so good, again forcing me to play catch up the whole race. I placed 21st over the line.
Tomorrow thankfully is a lay day, then racing continues Thurs, Fri and Saturday with 2 races each day.My current overall position is 17th.
