The recent Low Pressure system that formed off Fraser Is over the June long weekend produced some fantastic surf at Cape Moreton the following weekend. I was lucky enough to get out on the friday for some solo fishing before meeting up with another ‘solo boater’ mate at the wrecks that night.
As I rounded the Cape I stopped to watch some board riders who were getting into almost double overhead barrels! The fishing offshore was slow and the charter boys were also moaning on the radio about how slow it was.
The following day, with my mate shadowing in his boat, we decided to sit off Shark Spit and soak a few live baits looking for Mackeral, Cobia or even a Longtail. Again, the action was slow, but a 40kg+ Common Blacktip Shark provided some excitment.
However, sometimes the fishing is just a bonus. Having a couple of days in near glass out conditions and watching some pumping surf and catching up with mates on the water is what makes boating such a joy!
