Little Black Marlin are still on!!

18/02/2013 By Professional Boat Care

My 9 year old boy Sam, with his first Marlin caught off Currumbin, Dec 2012.

It ain’t over, till it’s over!! Just when I thought I should be packing away my light tackle marlin gear, we have seen another great report come in from The Trench off Cape Moreton over the weekend. Sunshine Coast boat, Big Business reported 49 strikes, 32 hook ups and 11 tagged and released. This summer’s season has been one of the hottest bites we have experienced off SE Qld for well over 10 years. Great to see that the species stock numbers are doing so well. It just goes to show, we really have so much to learn about these fish and why this year produced such excellent fishing, compared to the previous two seasons which were disasterous.

I have had many more reports of excellent action from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast, however, with the main body of fish now showing up as far south as Port Stephens, the fishing here should start to tail off soon. So get out there and enjoy it while it lasts!

Another first with my eldest boy Jack (11) getting his first Black Marlin off Cape Moreton, Dec 2012

These little Blacks on light tackle are fantastic to catch!

A few Wahoo are always a welcome bycatch for the table when Marlin fishing, however, when fishing solo they can be a handful!

Even my sister-in-law from California managed to get her first Marlin off Currumbin over Christmas.
